Neither of them really impressed me much. Monk's was terribly snotty and pretentious and were actually out of two of the beers on their weekly menu. Ludwig's is heavy heavy on the German, down to costumes for the staff. I kinda felt like annexing Poland after being there. And it smelled of kraut. More worthy - and much more friendly - places in Philly: Eulogy, Nodding Head, and the Khyber (surprisingly good craft beer selection).
