As a native of South Jersey/Philadelphia (often referred to as The Delaware Valley) I am definitely a "food snob" when it comes to certain things. It should come as no surprise that cheesesteaks top that list of snobbery but pizza runs a close second.
I've always been a believer – and I'm not alone – that the water used in the Delaware Valley water supply is the reason that the pizza, sub rolls and bread in general tastes so much better there and in North Jersey and New York. Chris tells me that all of the water supplied to those areas originates from the Pine Barrens, though I'll have to do some independent research in order to verify that.
Finding good pizza here in the Baltimore area has not been easy. When we're looking for a decent pie for dinner we hit Pasta Mista, a local takeout joint located up the road on Dulaney Valley Rd. in the same strip mall as Razorbacks. Another good area pizza place – though a bit more of a hike – can be found at 113 Back River Neck Road in Essex, MD. Pizza Johns is the name of the place and though their steak rolls leave something to be desired their pizza was excellent and the pre-made, fresh dough, take home pies were actually even better. Hmmm, I might go stock up on a few of those for the NCAA Tournament.
The news report that a Manhattan eatery has created a $1000.00 (or $250.00 a slice) pizza got me thinking about how much I'd be willing to pay for a good DelVal pizza. If somebody was going to bring it right to me, I think I'd be willing to pay $250.00 for a hot, fresh, slightly greasy pizza from one of my favorite places.

I'll bring you a hot, fresh, slightly greasy pizza, and I'll do a lot better on the price than $250 ... just do me right on the tip.
The only problem is that it would have to be from one of my favorite places, which are all about two to three hours away. Probably won't be so hot and fresh at that point...
