TV's Top "Drinkeries"?

On the surface, a list of TV's Top Bars seems like a good idea (and right up my alley). Naturally, Cheers, Moe's Tavern and Rosie's from Cheers, The Simpsons and M*A*S*H respectively leap to mind.

Unfortunately, the folks at TV Squad decided to open the list up to "drinkeries" so that they could include The Central Perk (Friends), The Peach Pit After Dark (90210) and Cafe Nervosa (Frasier) on a list that already features MacLaren's Bar from the single most overrated show on network television (How I Met Your Mother – people seriously enjoy this show?).

Here's my problem. For it to be a "Top" anything, wouldn't it have to be a place you'd actually like to hang at? Sure, I loved Cheers but it was too bright and aside from the lovable Coach and naive Woody would you have wanted to actually spend time with those people?

Moe's? According to Dr. Hibbert's daughter it "smells like tinkle" and owner Moe does tend to brandish a firearm now and then. Rosie's was located in Korea (pass) and frequenting the likes of the Central Perk, Peach Pit AD and Cafe Nervosa would run you the risk of hearing Phoebe's music or encountering Ross, getting mixed up in one of Val's schemes, or having to listen to pompous chatter that outlives its welcome.

Personally, I'd rather hang at The Crab Shack (My Name is Earl), The Warsaw (The Drew Carey Show) or Duke's (the bar Marty Crane frequented on Frasier). And let us not forget the German restaurant that served as the setting for the first season of Jesse, the NBC sitcom starring Christina Applegate. Beer, German food and the site of Applegate and co-star Liza Snyder decked out in dirndls... what's not to like?

Well, there's always Tipsy's McStagger's (Drexel Hill, PA)

Yes, I thought about including some of The Simpsons offshoot bar/restaurants like The Nag and Weasel (wasn't that the name of the faux Brit pub that Marge and Moe created?) but I may have to save that for its own list when the movie comes out.

Love your blog ... always entertaining! Though -- as a new reader -- Its a little scary that you know so much about 90210 :)

90210 was a longtime guilty pleasure of mine and they rewarded me with a great story arc featuring the incredible Wings Hauser as a former FBI agent helping Dylan get his fortune back from evildoers. I'll stop now before I scare you more.

Actually, there was supposed to be a picture with that comment:

Hope that works.

Wow. And *where* is that?

Aw shucks, but HIMYM is so cute! Seriously though, I don't watch enough TV anymore to know about the place on HIMYM. But how about that bar that Rosanne and Dan always drank at on Roseanne? Or, if scifi counts, there's always Quark's Bar on Star Trek:DS9.

I likr the dad's bar in Crossing Jordan.

Random trivia...Moe was based on Red of Red's Bar, which was the butt of prank calls which were copied and heavily distributed in the 80s ("Ya rat bastard! I'll cut ya open and look at your insides!")
