Memorial Day Sticker Shock

Everybody keeps talking about how much gas prices have gone up, making holiday travel a bigger burden on American families than at any time in our history. But what about that other Memorial Day tradition – the holiday BBQ? CNN reports that we should be prepared to pay more for, well, everything when we go shopping for food and drink this weekend.

Of course it depends on what type of meat you buy. I was sort of surprised the last time I went to get meatloaf mix that the ground meats I found the cheapest were (in order from THE cheapest): ground turkey (on sale and not), ground pork (not on sale), and fatty ground beef (on sale). So I went ahead and bought a pound each of pork and turkey. Sadly it turned into not the best meatloaf, but I think it had a lot to do with the recipe I used (Lipton does not give a good meatloaf recipe). I'm still steering clear of the ground turkey but maybe I'll do more of the porkburgers when I grill.
