Starbucks Blinks, Brings Back Real Coffee

I did not like Starbucks' milder Pike Place Roast blend. And, apparently, I am not alone. The company recently announced that it will bring back bolder blends in the afternoon at stores that sell a good amount of fresh brewed coffee all day long.

I know some folks enjoyed the Pike Place blend, but it did nothing for me other than motivate me to make real coffee at home in the afternoon rather than drink what tasted like watered-down diner coffee.

Its a decent blend. I've always liked the Sumatra.

Oh I'm so glad! The Pike Place always tasted like SOAP to me for some reason. Bring back the good (well, better) stuff!!

Go to the Starbucks web site. Look for Ideas Under Review. You'll find a really good blog about "Bring Back the Bold." Post and follow with the rest of us to get our bold coffee back.

I didn't think Pike Place was *milder* - in fact, it was the only coffee they offered that had the much-complained-about "burnt" flavor that Starbucks-haters whine about.

My favorite is Christmas Blend, followed by Shade Grown Mexico and Columbia Narino Supreme.

Mmmmm, Christmas Blend.

Even Starbucks uses terms like "smooth, subtle flavor" to describe Pike Place (which sounds like a bad TWIN PEAKS knock-off) so I'll stand by my use of the word "milder". I didn't find it had a burnt flavor at all. In fact, if it had had a burnt flavor it would have at least had flavor. Can't remember what it's called but I like the blend with the toucan on the label. In a cost-cutting move we actually bought two big bags of Starbucks beans and have been grinding them ourselves rather than pay the escalating prices for the ground variety at the grocery stores. Our local Superfresh is almost $10 a bag.
