Ruby Tuesday staff and management are standing behind their claim that a customer who died after going into anaphylactic shock got the dish he ordered, despite his wife's claim to the contrary.
Rodney "Krook" Hawkins, a welder and aspiring rapper, died after being served the restaurant's Chicken Oscar, an entree featuring "tender jumbo lump crab meat with asparagus tips and lemon-butter sauce atop a fresh grilled chicken breast". Hawkins' wife insists that her husband, who had been allergic to shellfish since childhood, ordered the Chicken Fresco, "a fresh, grilled chicken breast topped with seasonal vine-ripened tomatoes, lemon-butter sauce, and a splash of balsamic vinaigrette".
While the Georgia Bureau of Investigation suggested that the death was the result of a mix-up the restaurant maintains that the server's order pad and the kitchen ticket confirm that Hawkins ordered the crab-topped dish.

The man should have been able to smell the crabmeat (and known the difference between it and tomatoes) and sent it back before eating it. A sad story, but one that could have been avoided had the diner paid more attention to what he put in his mouth.
My brother has a peanut allergy and I have one to stone fruits and we are both vigilant about what we eat in restaurants. I also carry Benadryl, just in case.
Yeah, I know what you mean. Luckily I don't have any serious food allergies but I know things, possibly beverages, that don't agree with me so I steer clear. Like you say, a sad story but an outcome that was probably avoidable.
Very sad, but those are very different sounding dishes! Didn't he notice the lack of tomatoes and the sudden presence of asparagus?
I feel kind of bad for the server too, that must have been upsetting being accused of killing someone with a order.
