Hop on Over to Flavor Country!

I'm a big pizza fan going way back. For a Polish woman married to a Scot who loved meat and potatoes, my Mom made great deep dish tomato pies that my buddies and I regularly scarfed down while watching stuff like BLOODSUCKING FREAKS and SLAUGHTER HOTEL.

These days Chris whips up a mean homemade pie and we regularly enjoy topping combos like bruschetta (tomatoes, garlic, olive oil, salt and basil), Hawaiian (pineapple and prosciutto) and an artichoke and cheese mixture that I don't think really has a name associated with it. We're also lucky enough to live near three pretty good pizza joints (Pasta Mista, Matthews, Fortunato Bros.), all of which could make the grade in our pizza-crazy home turf of South Jersey/Philadelphia.

But leave it to chefs in the UK to come up with a pizza topping that can actually cause protests! The Sun reports that London pizza chain Eco has offended animal rights activists with its "Hopper", a traditional pizza topped with anchovies, capers and, yep, frogs legs. Apparently, frogs legs are typically hacked off while the critters are still alive, a practice that activists label as "barbaric".
